The Sidi Chahed Dam, built on the Oued Mikkès about 30 km northeast of Meknès, was commissioned in 1996 as part of the Sebou–Bouregreg–Oum Er Rbia Water Master Plan adopted in 1992. It is an earthfill dam with a clay core, 60 m high and 413 m long at the crest, with a storage capacity of 170 million m³. SGTM carried out the civil engineering works for this strategic structure, which was designed to supply drinking and industrial water to the city of Meknès, complementing existing wells that had become insufficient.
The dam also supplies drinking water to 90 downstream villages, irrigates 1,000 ha in the Mikkès valley, and sustains low-flow rates of the Oued to preserve its ecological balance. Construction required the placement of approximately 2.8 million m³ of materials and the temporary diversion of the river. SGTM successfully completed the project within four years, meeting stability requirements (slopes, drainage) and installing monitoring systems for the core.
For nearly 25 years, the Sidi Chahed Dam has consistently provided around 40 million m³ annually to Meknès, securing the water supply for more than one million inhabitants.
