This prestressed concrete road bridge, built by SGTM in Côte d’Ivoire, replaces an old, deteriorated bridge over the Marahoué River in Bouaflé (Centre-West). Works began in September 2012 and were completed in 24 months, with commissioning in January 2015.
The new structure comprises four spans supported on shallow foundations, with a total length of 124 m. With a roadway width of 7.5 m (two lanes) plus two sidewalks, it now provides safe bidirectional traffic, whereas the old bridge (dating back to 1958) offered only a single alternating lane.
Financed by the Ivorian State and the West African Development Bank (BOAD), the project has improved mobility in the Marahoué region and contributed to opening up agricultural areas towards Yamoussoukro and western Côte d’Ivoire.
