SGTM is taking part in the construction of the new railway line connecting the Nador West Med (NWM) port to the existing Oujda–Fès line at Selouane. This approximately 52 km single-track line will enable the evacuation of mineral, hydrocarbon, and container traffic from the future deep-water port of Nador, currently in its final construction phase.
SGTM is responsible in particular for platform works (earthworks, formation layer) and the construction of several engineering structures along the route: a major 1,500 m viaduct over the Oued Kert and around sixty standard structures (road bridges, underpasses) designed to accommodate railway clearance requirements.
The works, which began in 2019, involve significant earth movements (over 20 million m³ of excavation and fill across the entire line) and the clearing of a 230 ha right-of-way through partially forested terrain. SGTM has implemented strict environmental measures (compensatory reforestation, restoration of natural watercourses) and coordinated with authorities for the rapid expropriation of land (agreements signed with around 300 landowners).
The project, with a total budget of approximately MAD 606 million, is scheduled to enter service in 2025 in sync with the opening of the NWM port. SGTM’s contribution will provide northeastern Morocco with a strategic rail link, accelerating the region’s industrialization.
