The Prince Moulay Abdellah Dam, located 60 km north of Agadir on the Oued Tamri, is a thin double-curvature arch dam commissioned in 2002. SGTM built this 65 m-high structure in a gorge with limestone formations ideal for an arch design. The project aims to secure the drinking water supply of Greater Agadir (28 million m³/year projected by 2020).
The 110 million m³ reservoir covers 600 ha and is regulated by a lateral spillway 110 m long, designed for an extreme flood flow of 5,000 m³/s, reduced to 3,500 m³/s at the crest. SGTM installed an impressive bottom outlet system (capacity 130 m³/s) capable of emptying the reservoir in 15 days, with three tiered intakes integrated into the arch (levels 175, 185, and 200 NGM, total flow capacity 1.3 m³/s).
Construction required the prefabrication and installation of 258 concrete arch segments, as well as the creation of foundation galleries in a karstic context. The project involved high-precision formwork and concreting techniques to meet the reduced thickness specifications of the arch. With a total cost of approximately MAD 1.2 billion, the dam was completed on schedule and fulfills its strategic role in supplying water to the Agadir region.
