SGTM built the “Sensyo Pharmatech” vaccine plant in Benslimane, a strategic project launched in early 2022 to provide Morocco with vaccine manufacturing capacity (anti-Covid and others). Located on a 4-hectare site within the Benslimane industrial park, SGTM erected modular imported buildings (Swedish “plug & play” technology) in record time to house the pharmaceutical production lines.
The civil engineering works included foundations, ultra-flat slab floors, and utility infrastructure (air treatment plant, formulation units, and ISO 7-classified clean rooms). SGTM coordinated the reception of pre-equipped “modules,” which arrived by ship in mid-2022, and their assembly on a reinforced concrete raft foundation.
The plant comprises three aseptic filling lines for syringes and vials, with a target capacity of 116 million doses per year starting in 2024. SGTM also built a QC laboratory building and a large cold storage facility (-20°C). Despite an extremely tight schedule (objective to produce the first Covid-19 batches by the end of 2022), SGTM achieved the feat of delivering the plant in approximately 12 months, thanks to round-the-clock, seven-day-a-week operations and close collaboration with biological equipment suppliers.
With an estimated total cost of €400–500 million, this project positions Morocco as an African biotechnology hub and illustrates SGTM’s responsiveness in sensitive industrial projects.
