In partnership with General Electric, SGTM carried out the construction of a 315 MW open-cycle power plant in Kénitra. This turnkey project, launched in May 2010 and completed in November 2012, aimed to strengthen Morocco’s electrical grid to meet growing demand. SGTM was responsible for civil engineering works (earthworks, foundations, plant buildings) and the installation of auxiliary equipment, while GE supplied two 9E-type gas turbines (approximately 2 × 157 MW) and the control-command systems.
Logistical coordination was a major challenge: SGTM handled the transport and lifting of large turbines, expedited customs clearance of imported components, and on-site assembly in full compliance with industrial safety standards. Despite a tight schedule (25 months of works), the plant was delivered ahead of projections, as noted by client ONE, who praised SGTM’s performance. Commissioned in 2012, this fuel- or natural gas-fired plant immediately contributed to securing the country’s power supply.
