SGTM, as part of a consortium, built this major dam in Burkina Faso on the Mouhoun River (Black Volta), making Samendeni the third-largest dam in the country. Inaugurated at the end of 2019, the structure is a rockfill gravity dam with an upstream facing. It creates an artificial lake of over one billion m³, intended for the irrigation of 15,000 ha of farmland, the supply of drinking water, and hydroelectric production (power plant with 2 × 1.3 MW units). Its construction required the relocation of villages and the development of accompanying infrastructure. The commissioning of the Samendeni Dam is estimated to contribute an additional 2% to Burkina Faso’s GDP through local agricultural and energy development.
