In Senegal, SGTM built a petroleum hydrocarbon storage depot at the new mineral and bulk port of Bargny-Sendou, near Dakar. Completed in 2016, this project aimed to relocate petroleum storage and loading operations from the urban port of Dakar to reduce industrial risks. SGTM developed a 4-hectare platform hosting several storage tanks (total capacity of approximately 103,000 m³ according to operators) and associated facilities: concrete slab foundations for tanks, containment dikes, fire safety networks, truck loading station, and control buildings.
The works also included connections to the new port infrastructure – notably the installation of pipelines linking the depot to the unloading arms on the jetty, designed for a throughput of 2.5 million tonnes/year of hydrocarbons. SGTM adhered to strict safety and environmental standards (tank lining, fire-break basins, anti-pollution systems).
Logistical coordination was critical, as the site required the importation of certain specialized equipment and the involvement of local subcontractors. This modern petroleum depot, commissioned shortly after 2016, is now a strategic facility for the fuel supply of Senegal and the wider sub-region.
