In the early 1990s, SGTM built the main facilities of the Al Akhawayn University (AUI) campus in Ifrane. Founded in 1993 and opened in January 1995, AUI is a residential, American-style university. SGTM delivered the works in accordance with the architectural specifications inspired by the Alpine chalet style (steeply pitched roofs with green tiles, walls in local stone) designed to blend into the Middle Atlas landscape.
The works included the construction of seven academic pavilions (classrooms, library, laboratories), eight student residences (capacity ~2,000 beds), a covered sports center, and an auditorium. SGTM also completed the site development works on the 40-hectare campus (roads, wet networks, and fiber optic infrastructure for the digital campus).
The company successfully adapted to Ifrane’s climatic conditions (snow, frost) by using techniques such as anti-freeze concrete for foundations and scheduled winter work pauses. Delivered on time for the arrival of the first student cohort at the end of 1995, the university began with around 700 students. Today, AUI hosts approximately 2,130 students and is recognized for its high-standard campus. SGTM played a key role in bringing to life this elite university, a symbol of Morocco’s international openness.
