The Abdelmoumen Dam, commissioned in 1981 on the Oued Issen river about 70 km from Agadir, is a concrete buttress dam (27 buttresses in total) designed to regulate water for irrigation and drinking water supply. Standing 94 m high with a crest length of 405 m, it controls a catchment area of approximately 1,300 km² receiving an average of 500 mm of annual rainfall. With a reservoir capacity of 216 million m³, the dam regulates around 100 million m³ per year. Its operation enables irrigation of 6,000 ha of modern agricultural perimeters downstream and supports 3,300 ha of traditional crops, while relieving the overexploited groundwater of the Ouled Teima plain (safeguarding 2,900 ha).
Abdelmoumen also contributes to the drinking water supply of Greater Agadir with 9.5 million m³/year. SGTM took part in the construction of this complex buttress structure, which required high-quality concreting and rigorous control measures (in 1988, cracks at the buttress heads led to subsequent reinforcements). The structure has fully performed its multi-purpose functions for over 40 years.
